| Saguaro Lake is the
closest to Metro Phoenix of the four large Salt River Project
reservoirs built on the Salt River. It is 10 miles in length
and has 22.2 miles of shoreline. To get to
Saguaro Lake, take Hwy. AZ-87, the Beeline Highway to Payson, east
from Scottsdale or Mesa and go 15 miles past the intersection with Shea Boulevard in Fountain Hills to the Bush Highway, marked as Forest
Service Road 204. Turn south and go four miles to the lake.
The Saguaro del Norte Recreation site at
the lake has boat launching ramps, a campground with picnic tables,
restrooms, and a marina. The Saguaro Lake Marina has boat
rentals, a store, and a restaurant. Further east at Butcher
Jones Beach, there is a campground with picnic tables, a swimming
beach, fishing docks, and restrooms.
The Bagley Flat Campground is about four
miles up the lake from the dam and is accessible only by boat. It
has restrooms, no fees and is open all year.
The lake is stocked by the Arizona Game
and Fish Department and has brown and rainbow trout, walleye,
largemouth and yellow bass, bluegills, channel catfish, and crappie.
