| Lake Pleasant is a
large reservoir, over 9,800 surface acres, used for recreation and
water sports and to store and supply water to the Metro Phoenix
area. It is used for water skiing, boating, jet skiing, camping,
and fishing by many local residents for quick weekend get-aways.
Lake Pleasant is located northwest of Phoenix and west of
Interstate-10. To get there, take I-10 north to the Carefree Hwy,
Exit 223, and go west on AZ-74 to Lake Pleasant Road. Continue north
and then west on AZ-74 to Castle Hot Springs Road, and then go north
for two or three miles. Several areas north of the lake are good for
four-wheeling. The western
shoreline is enclosed by the Lake Pleasant Regional Park, which is
owned by the city of Peoria and managed by the Maricopa County Parks
and Recreation Department. The park has campgrounds and picnic areas
with covered tables, grills, and restrooms. Designated group
campgrounds have restrooms with showers, RV dump stations, and water
and electrical hook-ups. There are two multi-lane boat ramps, with
ample parking for vehicles with boat trailers. There are entrance
fees per vehicle, including boats, and use fees for day use,
overnight camping, and picnicking.
