| Apache Lake
is located on the Salt River north of the Superstition Mountains
northeast of Apache Junction.
You can get to Apache Lake by going northeast from Apache Junction
on AZ-88 over what is known as the
Apache Trail. This is a scenic route,
though definately not for anyone with a weak heart, going past
Canyon Lake,
through the old stage stop of Tortilla Flat. It is paved up to
Canyon Lake but becomes a graded dirt and gravel road after that to Apache Lake. The road continues on up to
Roosevelt Lake,
where in places it literally hangs on the side of a
sheer cliff that drops straight down hundreds of feet. Apache Lake
is 17 miles long and is used for fishing, boating, and water skiing.
At the lake, there is a Tonto National
Forest campground called Burnt Corral Recreation Site with 79
campsites for overnight camping, picnic tables, and a paved boat
launch ramp. There are public toilets and water hydrants, but no
hook-ups. The
Apache Lake Marina and Resort
is a private, family-owned facility with a restaurant, motel, RV
campground, and store on the south shore of the lake. They
stock groceries and fishing equipment and supplies at the store, and
the marina has wet and dry boat storage, boat rentals and repairs,
gasoline, and water skiing equipment. The RV campground accommodates
both recreational vehicles and tent campers, with a laundry and
showers.
